PDO Threads - What are they? How do they Work?

PDO Threads are a bioreasorbable artificial polymer which undergoes complete hydrolytic degradation. In layman's terms, threads are an absorbable suture similar to those that have been used for over 30 years to close wounds in cardiovascular and orthopaedic surgery. It is a safe material that is completely absorbed by the body over a period of time.

After the application of a topical numbing cream, multiple threads are placed under the skin to provide an instant tightening of the skin whilst stimulating the natural production of collagen. This then stimulates skin rejuvenation, improving elasticity, brightening skin tone and improving fine lines and texture.

The threads themselves are reabsorbed over a period of 3-4mths with the increase in collagen occurring at 2-3mths.

Dermapen - Superficial Pigmentation/Mild Sun damage

Minimal down time 24 Hours

Dermapen is a skin needling treatment and a great option for those looking to brighten up and reduce some superficial pigmentation, which is mostly caused by sun exposure. This treatment is a great all-rounder and suitable for all skin types, not only does it tidy up some pigmentation, but you'll also induce a nice collagen boost! Down time includes leaving the clinic feeling flushed and a little red which will settle down within hours, if not overnight. Results will be noticeable from 2 weeks onwards with your skin absolutely glowing!

Cosmelan - Melasma/Hormonal Pigmentation

Moderate downtime 7-14 Days

Melasma causes hyperpigmentation or discoloured= marks deeper in the skin layers, which are darker than your surrounding skin. The triggers for Melasma vary from person to person with the main triggers being hormonal fluctuations, ultraviolet and infrared radiation from the sun. Cosmelan is a deep penetrating Medi-peel that is applied topically in the clinic and left on for up to 12 hours depending on your skin type. This treatment does have moderate downtime where you may experience some swelling, redness and flaking of the skin for up to 14 days. A Cosmelan specific skincare routine MUST be implemented following treatment to optimise and maintain results maintenance.

Clear + Brilliant Laser - Mid-Depth Pigmentation

Minimal down time 24-48 Hours

This laser packs a punch with minimal downtime! Clear + Brilliant is a fractional erbium laser that targets pigmentation sitting mid-depth in the epidermal dermal junction and is suitable for all skin types and colour! This treatment will leave the skin feeling flushed and warm, with redness subsiding typically within 24 hours. From here the skin will feel rough to touch, and perhaps a little dry/itchy for 5 - 7 days, however make up may be worn and visually the skin will appear normal so no need to clear the calendar. Results will kick in about 2 weeks post treatment with the skin being notably clearer, hydrated and refreshed following the boost of collagen.

Alma Harmony Pro Laser - Severe Sun Damage

Moderate Down time 7-10 Days

Extensive sun damage/pigmentation calls for the holy grail of lasers - The Alma Harmony Pro! This machine can do a lot of things, let's focus on the pigmentation for now! This erbium fractional ablative laser is used to resurface the skin, removing that deep pigmentation embedded in the high dermis, resulting in fresh new skin being generated! The Harmony Pro is an erbium laser meaning we can treat the entire spectrum of skin colours regardless of ethnicity. Downtime for this laser ranges from 7-10 days post treatment, with clients experiencing a sunburn like redness, warmth in the treated area, and some flaking of the skin as it heals. This is one treatment you may want to tie in with couple of quiet weekends. Following resurfacing laser it is imperative to avoid sun exposure during the healing of the skin.

Maintenance following treatment

Ok. So we have reduced the unwanted pigmentation. Our skin tone is even, hydrated and glowy following our pigmentation removal treatment (that also happened to give us our bonus collagen boost!) where to from here??

Pigmentation can come back, we now need to be proactive in hindering its return. 
The first point of call is going to be Skincare. Specifically a Tyrosinase Inhibitor, this particular product will reduce/inhibit the bodies production of melanin, in turn maintaining the results of your pigmentation removal. We recommend both the ASPECT Complete Pigment Plus Serum & Epi Dr Pigment Serum.

The second easiest way to keep excess pigmentation at bay is reducing your sun exposure! Wear that hat, use your SPF 50+ and cover up where possible!
